Top Tech,
Brilliant piece of tech for a nice price! I must say don’t expect lightning fast 3D games and blistering performance after all it’s not an Archos or iPad not even close but I still feel it holds its own in an already competative market. The Android 2.2 (Froyo) is a nice and smooth OS and the Android Market (real market too) has all the apps you’ll ever need, Kindle works like a dream, Facebook was a little buggy on mine but replaced that with the earlier version and now it’s all sweet. The web browser is ace for just general viewing and surfing, iPlayer can be fiddly but easily solved via the android market.
So far i’ve managed 4 1/2hours on a full charge including heavy Facebooking (flashgames), eBay and Youtube plus watching a 2hr 720p Avi file, I must say though if you arn’t using this device online turn the wifi off as it’s a major drain on the battery and also “Advance Taskill” is a must have app installed (free from the market). The support for this tablet/slate is excelent i’ve found numerous sites offering guidance and advice for the M009S and it does seem to have quite a large tech following if you need more proof check out slatedroid.com.

|Damn impressive, more so if you’re a techie,
I picked this tablet up just wanting something to act as a cheap E-reader/Cbr Viewer and to watch the occasional video on when the TV is otherwise engaged and do a bit of browsing.
The stock firmware is your typical half Chinese junk with a multitude of weird apps no one would want and random bits of Engrish everywhere. Thankfully there is a Tabtronics website that holds updated firmware for the device, I updated to 1.5.1 (The most recent as of now) which took about 5 minutes, upon powering the tablet back on it was much improved, I believe GoClickIt may be starting to ship these devices with the newer firmware, if not its a simple job to update it.
The tablet itself looks identical to an iPad, only smaller, the Power and Menu buttons on the edge are a little “cheap” and “clicky” but to be fair you won’t use them much (theres an onscreen menu button anyways). Connectivity wise the tablet has a headphone jack and a charger jack (almost identical, so do be careful!) sadly the charger is an unusual connection so don’t lose the mains adaptor!. Aside from the micro-SD slot all other connectivity is done via a replica of an iPod/iPad/iPhone connector, thankfully a USB > iConnector cable is included for copying files across from a PC as is a dongle allowing you to insert USB devices and Ethernet cables into that slot.
The wireless works spot on and seems to pick up signals well, battery life seems to give me about 2-4 hours depending on if Wi-Fi is enabled and how much I’m using it.
With regards to software the updated firmware has a fully working Android Market (the proper official one, although some 3rd part markets are also installed) however certain apps do not show up as the Market *thinks* they are incompatible with the tablet, sometimes they are and sometimes they aren’t depending on how techy you are you can get round this (For example the Twitter, G+, ES File Manager and TVGuide.co.uk apps show as incompatible however if you get hold of the .apk files and install them manually they work fine, whereas several games don’t). If you’re not confident on doing this, then Twitter, G+ and such all work fine through the browser.
Performance wise its reasonably responsive, heck even the iPlayer website works albeit a bit slowly (the app doesn’t work even if you forcibly install it as mentioned above), Web browsing is fast and responsive and Angry Birds (which is pre-installed and has the backgrounds disabled) works at a decent speed, however the other Angry Birds titles won’t work as you can’t turn the backgrounds off.
Basically for a bit of Web Browsing, Book Reading and watching some videos this device is well worth the money, if you’re massively into gaming then understandably for the price you are out of luck. If you’re feeling extra techy you can play around with updating the firmware yourself past what is available on the Tabtronics site; as far as I can tell their recommended firmware is a slightly Tweaked Modroid v7, if you Google that you’ll find further versions but your mileage may vary around how well they work, personally I’d stick with the Tabtronics recommended versions.
One word of warning, while the device does ship with a stylus I wouldn’t recommend using it as it seems rather sharp and has put scratches in my screen, fingers do fine!
(For info I’m using Aldiko as my E-reader and Perfect Viewer as my CBR reader on this device)

|Does some things well, others less so.,
For the money I can’t complain. There are a lot of things to like about this very budget tablet. Emails via wifi are a joy, put in a 16gb micro sd card and a load of music can be stored on this device, You Tube is more than watchable. A few issues though – it may come with Flash 10 so why can’t I download iplayer etc.?
A very limited Chinese Android Market provided -I have downloaded better Markets but I still can’t download the official Android Market – I thought because it came with Android 2.2 the official Market was available to me. Maybe I misunderstood.
I will contact Tabtronics maybe they can help with upgrades, if they cannot then this tablet will do for a few months until I can afford something better.
